Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008 – Part III
Part III of my E3 write-up. It is now Sony’s turn in the hot seat. I have to admit, I went into their conference with a bad attitude, not wanting to like a thing they would proceed to shove down my throat, but I came out mightily impressed by what was on offer and I am actually considering that maybe, perhaps, with a little more convincing I might just possibly pick up a Playstation 3 at some point in the future.
SONY
Resistance 2 (THIS TRAILER IS A MUST-WATCH FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!)
Coming exclusively to the PS3, this purdy little thing is due for release this Fall! I was left absolutely gob-smacked by the trailer and on the edge of my seat wanting more, more, MORE! It looks very much like Gears of War crossed with Battlestar Galactica with a hint of Half Life 2. Just watch the freakin’ trailer, mmkay?
Little Big Planet
Coming to the PS3 October 2008. I have to admit, Sony went about showcasing off this game AND showing their numbers off in a very smart way. I was really impressed and I do believe I’ve fallen in love with Sackboy, bless.
- God of War 3
Out for the PS3 exclusively in 2009. Another game that is feeding the devil on my right shoulder all sorts of nonsense on why I should get myself a Playstation 3! Not a lot else is really known about GoW3, but I sure am excited all the same!
- inFamous
Another exclusive due out on the PS3 in Spring 2009. A sandbox-type game similar to Crackdown, with some awesome looking powers. Not too typed about this game as I wasn’t 100% satisfied with Crackdown, but if I do get a PS3 it’ll definitely be something I pick up as a rental.
DC Universe Online
Coming to the PS3/PC, release date to be announced. This reminds me of City of Heroes/Villains. Can’t say I’m overly excited really, I’m a huge comic book / graphic novel fan.. But I just can’t get into this kind of game, personally. Saying that, I’m not much of a MMO gamer either – The only one that caught my attention for World of Warcraft and that love affair only last 6 months before boredom struck in and a more shinier game stole my heart.
MAG: Massive Action Game
PS3 exclusive, release date to be announced. This is set to be a massive game. 256 players, yes, TWO-HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY-SIX PLAYERS at once, divided into 8 person squads. Your soldier levels up and gains new skills as you play. Big shame the trailer was all CGI, but I got the feeling this game is still in it’s very early stages of development. I would like to think we’ll be seeing this in 2009, but I’m going to put some money on the table here and say it’ll be a 2010 release at best.
Other Announcements:
- Buzz: Out on the PS3 this September. It’s the same old trivia gameshow all over again. Nothing to be overly excited about, unless you host a lot of parties.
- Ratchet & Clank PSP Pack: Costing you $199, this is out this October. This new pack will include Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, a silver PSP slim, a 1GB memory stick and a UMD of National Treasure : Book of Secrets.
- Resistance: Retribution: This is the PSP sequel to the original Resistance game, set for release in Spring 2009.
- LEGO Batman Bundle: Guess what, this is for the PS2! This bundle will include the PS2 system, the LEGO Batman game and a DVD of Justice League: A New Frontier.
- Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty: For the PSN, due to be released this summer for only $15. This is basically similar to what Valve have been doing with Half Life 2 – Releasing small “episodes” inbetween larger ones.
- New PSN Games. New games for the Playstation Network: Fat Princess, Pixeljunk Eden, Flower, Crash Commando, Siren: Blood Curse, Pain Amusement Park and Ragdoll Kung Fu.
- PSN Movie Store: You can now rent and purchase movies over PSN. Watch them on your PS3, or send them to your PSP. Rentals will run from $2 to $3 for TV shows and $3 to $5 for movies. Purchases will begin at $15.
So that’s it folks! The larger E3 conferences have all be done – I’ve been keeping an eye on the smaller ones and will report back anything deem post-worthy! Although with the Internet exploding with information on E3, you probably have heard all the best news pieces already!

The (rumored? confirmed?) PS3 price drop makes it pretty attractive, as well. I’ve been planning on picking up an 80GB PS3 for quite some time, but was kinda holding out to see if it would be a little less pricey.
Risky – The price drop has been confirmed.
I wish a price drop excited me more. I loved my PS1 and my PS2, but there has been nothing that’s stimulated me to seriously think about buying a PS3.
Yeah same here the only real reason I would buy a PS3 at this point would be a cheaper Blue Ray player*LOL*
haha you know what Rav that is the reason I got a PS3!! LOL and I did catch a lower price than $600 which is really high for a console.. does that mean the next game system will be near $1000??
Probably, I mean the price has been going higher and higher anyway along with games. Oh wait till you have to drop a Benjamin just to buy one of those as well
yah i hope to never see the day a game costs $100
I’m going to stay in the here and now. I like it better here. Things are still expensive, but manageable. To be honest, Sony just doesn’t have enough exclusive content right now that makes their system worth it to me.
that Resistance 2 game looks really really good, and God of War well i absolutely loved the first one, i’ll have to admit i kinda wanna waste a couple hundred on this system just cause i’d like to have some of these. I used to be a Sony only person till i got the 360 soo…we’ll see
same here bean dip and GoW 3 is probably the system seller for me especially since it should be affordable by then, resistense and killzone both look awesome but the controller just turns me off FPSs sadly did you see the guy who put six axis guts in a 360 controller, I totally want to do that.
Ahh yes GoW that is a fun game.. however I wouldnt get a PS3 just b/c of that.. I agree with Advent that Sony doesnt really have spectacular $600 worth content..
BUT they have that blu-ray dvd player hence the ONLY reason I have a PS3 b/c i wanted a blu-ray player and PS3 was cheaper than just a dvd player LOL
now the irony is I’ll prolly get GoW3 b/c I may as well right?
