Here come the Feminists again

Submitted by Doll of War on August 4, 2008 – 4:33 pm14 Comments

Lately, I’ve been reading up on some of the outcry’s of issues feminists are having with characters within games. The latest outcry is about the PlayStation game; Fat Princess. From what i found out, two feminists are having their 5 mins of fame by their petty outcry’s. So I will do my part and by extending their 5 mins to 6.

Let’s start with a quote from Liss’ post:

Anyway, congrats on your awesome new game, Sony. I’m positively thrilled to see such unyielding dedication to creating a new generation of fat-hating, heteronormative assholes. It’s not often I have the opportunity to congratulate a cutting-edge tech company on such splendiferous retrofuck jackholery. Way to go! The Fat Princess of Shakes Manor salutes you.

Regarding her problem, she isn’t doing any justice by the way she is trying to address her concerns. She is acting like a belligerent feminist, which I don’t think should exist in this period of time, along with acting like a 10 year old that, for the first time in their life, figured out what it meant to use the middle finger.

The second feminist with her outcry is Mighty Ponygirl. Unlike the former egotistical feminist, Ponygirl does have other suggestions and doesn’t attribute to the stereotypical feminist.

Instead of running out into the forest to find cake to fatten up the princess with, why not go out and find gold (which is a lot heavier than cake) to stuff into a treasure chest. The more gold in the chest, the heavier it would be, and the harder it would be to carry.

Oh, but that’s not as “cute” as cake and fat chicks. Right.

Her suggestion does seem realistic and addressed in a suitable manner.

My concern with their outcry’s are, why are they against the concept of this game? America already has a huge problem with people being overweight. This game is showing you exactly what happens when you eat a lot of junk food; you get fat, which means that you will be unhealthy. This game should be an awareness game for kids and grown ups.

They have tackled the overweight issue in a cute and unique way. If they were to switch the princess out for a chess, as Ponygirl suggests, it wouldn’t bring any awareness to the issue’s of reality, therefore it would be a typical CTF type of game, which even I wouldn’t be interested in.

Prior to Fat Princess, they were complaining about some of the characters in Soul Calibur IV. It’s pretty obvious that game is targeted towards males to begin with, I suppose this is why their issues weren’t as well known.

As feminists, they should probably stick to issues that portray females as sexual objects instead of focusing on a game that could help bring more awareness of being unhealthy beings.

Haha, this game seems fun in a way and I agree that it does raise awareness about health. These ‘feminists’ who complain about this sort of thing are stupid as this game is about weight not necessarily about sex. This is s classic mountain out of a molehill.

  • Miss Risky says:

I think the concept is clever, and I agree that it’s refreshing to see a game where females aren’t hyper-sexualized. And you’re right, Doll, why not have a cautionary message about too many sweets packed into a cute, cartoony game? I’d rather see that than a game where the object is to makeover a fat/ugly princess with plastic surgery! Liss’s bird-flipping photo and write-off of a yet-unfinished game as “splendiferous retrofuck jackholery” is a huge overreaction, and super-immature to boot.

The funny part of all of this is that the whiners are getting their 5 minutes right now, but the controversy that they’re stirring up is probably going to sell more games.

  • Smiles MD says:

LOL!! princess is FAAAAT… i agree with u darth this might be a good way to bring about health awareness as for the feminists well……. are they fat?

  • x The Advent x says:

Hahahaha. Oh man. I don’t even know what to say about this. I’m not sure who’s crazier – the people who made the game or the feminists who are definitely overreacting.

  • Ravenous Wulf says:

yeah I mean thats what I want to do in a game is see how chubby I can make my character*LOL* Yeah it may raise health awareness but common who wants to play a game where the objective is turning into Jabba

  • Smiles MD says:

LOL “Jabba” funny…. hey well who woulda thought making a ball of trash in beautiful katamari would be entertaining? turns out amazingly enough it was… i wonder if it inspired people to pick up litter too? who knows fat princess could be just as fun…

So what happens if you starve her? LOL does she get skinny and you lose or is she an angry fat person who goes A-wall when you mess with her food?? I mean come on you know someone would eventually try and see…

  • Ravenous Wulf says:

LOL and watch out for that poisonous health food…cause that stuff will kill ya in the game. What happens when your chased by the subway guy? do you loose points because you active and loosing weight? *LOL*

  • Smiles MD says:

ROFL!!! thats funny Rav “subway guy” Are there any negative side effects of obesity for Princess? That wouldn’t be a good health lesson if there weren’t…..

  • Ravenous Wulf says:

oh wait you could see how quickly you could get your character to die from heart failure or something–like woo hoo I hit the 500 lb mark and was dead in 25 years

  • B Miggs says:

I think Mighty Ponygirl just wants a piece of cake. In fact, I found one for her…

  • x The Advent x says:

You guys. . . are crazy. Just saying. : ) So what actually happens when you win, then?

  • Smiles MD says:

LOL!! Rav way to bring in profit on poor princesses obesity problem…. ROFL!

And Advent I think you win when princess dies of obesity…?? or better yet has a change or heart and signs up the reality show Biggest Loser …

after all you have to leave room for a new storyline for the 2nd game….. where objective it to keep princess fit and in shape….
