Gears of War 2: A Nutshell

What can I say about Gears of War 2? There’s not a lot that I can say that you probably haven’t already heard elsewhere really. This game is Gears of War, on steroids. It’s just as intense as it’s predecessor, only with more enemies, more weapons and more FUN! I ran through the single player quickly yesterday and loved every minute of it – When the creators likened this game to playing the star of a top Hollywood production, they weren’t kidding. You really are dragged backwards through a hedge full of emotions.
Without revealing any spoilers (because they’re not fun now, are they?) GoW2 is definitely set to be Game of the Year and everyone who owns a 360 should have this game.

Gears of War is my all time favorite game, the first thing I noticed about Gears 2 campaign was how well produced it is, it does feel like a well funded action movie, script is a million times better and screenplay is amazing, gameplay is “Bigger, Better and more Badass” only thing is I totally understand why they wanted to move away from the online shotgun battles but powering up the lancer would have been enough, not nerfing shotgun, powering up lancer, making chainsaw godlike and leaving a hole the size of texas in the chainsaw duels, maybe its just me but getting into a chainsaw duel is more random than who got the chainsaw kill in gears 1.
i somehow got into a chainsaw duel while i had my shotgun out…and i won too lol, i still haven’t finished the campaign i haven’t been on my box much but i really wanna get through it finally.
I just got it today!!!! along with my xbox finally! (it was out for repair) cant wait to get into it I’ve heard so many great things….
Nice article and a great game. Multiplayer is far more tactical and the Campaign was enjoyable. The most improved part that I noticed was the overall smoothness of movement which I really liked. I wasn’t over impressed with the final ‘boss’ though (if it can be called that).
I agree Darth the game play is alot smoother and I believe the graphics are better as well.. I like how they pretty much kept all of the button functions the same as the previous game and it seems like this storyline is more developed (even though I haven’t finished the game yet..)
I loooved GoW2.. I even got a replica lancer!! XD Everything is bigger better and more bad ass for sure but for some strange reeeeeeeason, I still somewhat a tiny pinch enjoy GoW1 better. It may be because it was the first game of it’s style that I fell in love with. I even got teary-eyed on a certain part or 2!! D=
LOL teary eyed? Hmm interesting that you say that Riot… I on the other hand think GoW2 is much better than its former version but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion…
Out of curiosity do you still play GoW now that GoW2 is out?
OK first of all I am suprised……a Gears of War 2 thread and Dope has no comments in it whatsoever*LOL* ah must still be too busy playing the game. I have played through the single player and really enjoyed it. Im not as big of a gears fan as everyone else but it was a great game( 4 player co-op would have ruled though) I have played a few matches online and those are pretty intense too. I love the whole business of sticking a frag on a wall and leaving it as a motion mine*LOL* And of course its alot easier to chainsaw now and we all know I am the chainsaw king
Good question Smiles. I think people tend to stick with GoW2 since they have all the prior maps included in 2. I do think that some of us would probably go back every so often to play some acts on the campaign again.
Ok now i have seen all your comments and im guna have to disagree =S. I think yes the gameplay, graphics and campaign have really stepped up BUT…the online is absolute shithouse!!! Maybe its cos im from australia and seems like most of y’all are americans this may be the problem. Sure the multiplayer is good when you get a game and i mean WHEN!!. Over here the general consensus is you have to wait an eternity in the lobby for a match its freaken ridiculous!!! Everyone i know from the land down under that were big GOW players are all saying theyre goin to turn back to gears1 for multiplayer. This really sucks cos gears2 rapes gears 1 on soo many levels. Anyways my new update for the 360 is finished!!!
